Helena Dakota Vineyard
Located above Knights Valley, and like neighboring Helena Montana vineyard, Helena Dakota vineyard is devoted to Cabernet Sauvignon. Helena Dakota stands 750 feet high in between Mount St. Helena’s two grandest peaks. This 12.4 acre mountain vineyard possesses slopes up to 15 degrees.
Shade from the high treeline that defines the vineyard’s north side protects the vines and contributes to a moderate micro-climate absent of extreme heat or cold. The soil is a gravelly, silt loam that is reddish brown in color. Although it is rocky in places, it is softer than the soil of Helena Montana which results in deeper, more established root systems and larger vines. The berries possess a mineral quality that is characteristic of this unique combination of soil and temperature.
